I recently found out that my blog, From Lizzie’s Lungs, made the list of the Top 10 Lung Cancer Blogs of 2016! Woohoo!
I started this blog one year ago to provide updates on my battle with lung cancer to my friends and family. Over the course of the year, it has expanded to help create awareness and hope. It now has been read in over 75 countries and has had almost 90,000 views! I can’t thank you all enough for your continual support over this past year!
I am often asked why I share my story and personal information in such a public forum. The answer to that isvery simple. It is about creating hope. When I was first diagnosed, I wasn’t given any hope. It is my belief that no matter what the circumstances might be, everyone deserves to have hope. Because of this, each night before bed, I would google 1 Lung Cancer Survivor Story. It was reading these stories that gave me the courage to wake up the next day and do it all over again. It was these stories that gave me hope and the belief that I can beat this too. I will never forget the day I found Emily Bennett Taylor’s story online (who’s blog also won Healthline’s Best of 2016!). A 28 year-old athlete, newlywed, diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. She is now over 3 years NED (No evidence of disease) and has two beautiful newborn twin girls. It gave me hope and truly made me feel like what I was told was “impossible”, was possible.
You have to dream the impossible. If it could happen for Emily, it could happen for you and I too.
It is my hope that I might be an “Emily” to someone else too. Whatever story those newly diagnosed may stumble upon, may just be the story that gives them the hope to keep battling on.
Don’t forget to “follow” my blog and/or my facebook page, From Lizzie’s Lungs, if you’d like to receive e-mail/facebook updates. I will be sharing my latest cancer update very soon!
just breathe.
